Enter the whimsical world of Donna Wilson, mother of knitted creatures, wool lover, ceramicist, and all-around creative soul. We absolutely adore her whimsical creations, from graphic garments to giant banana bolster pillows and her playful Assembly furniture family.

Donna has been creating colourful knitted products in her East London studio since graduating 2003, making our lives just that little bit brighter, one creature at a time.

  • You, in a nutshell?

Enter the world of Donna Wilson if you dare,
a place where pattern and colour collide and the imagination is free to run wild.

  • Where is home?

London, and my birth home, North East Scotland.

  • What did you wanna be when you grow up?

I wanted to look after animals.
I grew up on a farm, and always loved having pets, cats, dogs, lambs, mice etc.

  • What did you become?

A textile and product designer, mainly knitting creatures, home accessories and ceramics.

  • A turning point?

One day, I was standing at a tradeshow and noticed that there were a lot of brands doing similar things. I decided to isolate myself for a while and try to come up with new ideas! That's where my abstract assembly series came from.

  • The ugliest item you own and dearly love?

I don't think he's ugly, but maybe some people will. I was drawn to his ability to roar continuously.

  • The best gift you ever got?

A second-hand orange Brompton bike, from my partner Jon.I was really annoyed at the time as I wanted a trampoline!

  • Your most prized possession?

My ceramic collection including an original Stig Limburg bowl and a few pieces by Makoto Kagoshima.

  • A coveted yet clearly unaffordable item?

These wooden speakers by Rio Kobayashi spotted on your feed!

  • A pastime?

Pottering around on my allotment, especially in the spring when the plants are waking up and starting to grow.

  • If you were an object?

A doll from Alexander Girard or a combination of them depending on my mood.

  • A side hustle?

I am working on some wooden sculptures with faces inspired by paper cuts and the abstract assembly pieces I did a while ago. My partner, Jon, is making them from wood, and I am going to paint them and varnish.

  • A proud moment?

My 20th anniversary show. The best part was seeing everyone that had worked with me over the years all get together and reminisce.

  • An all-time hero?

    Alexander Girard.

  • Who do you want to be when you grow up?

    Sonia Delauney.
