Kristine Five Melvær

Meet Kristine Five Melvær, a multi-disciplinary designer we have loved for many, many moons. From gorgeous textiles to stunning vessels, tableware, and furniture, everything Kristine touches turns to gold. She’s also partly responsible for Malika's overflowing collection of plaids.

  • You, in a nutshell?

A Norwegian industrial designer and graphic designer. Love being around nice people, eating great food, and the joy of making things.

  • Where is home?

    Oslo, Norway.

  • What did you wanna be when you grow up?

Preferably a super hero, otherwise someone who makes things.

  • What did you become?

    Someone who makes things.

  • An odd summer job?

Demonstrating espresso machines in a horrible warehouse when I was 19. It felt like the hours went by in slow motion.

  • The best gift you ever got?

It’s always the emotional connection. Photo albums made by my mother or things made by my children – like this toilet paper core elephant.

  • The best gift you ever gave?

I like to give unique prototypes as it feels more personal. Like this Mikkel blanket color test I gave to my sister.

  • Your most prized possession?

My Norwegian traditional costume represents both lost loved ones, advanced craft techniques and hundreds of hours of needlework.

  • The ugliest item you own and dearly love?

This vase. It was a beauty once, but I obviously did a terrible repair job.

  • A coveted yet clearly unaffordable item?

The Kyoto table by Gianfranco Frattini.

  • A contemporary kindred spirit?

    Pauline Caulfield.

  • An all-time hero?

Achille Castiglioni - especially after visiting Fondazione Achille Castiglioni in Milan.

  • A turning point?

    Launching the Ikiperu collection with
Poltrona Frau was a true pinch me moment.

  • A recent project

    My Bento collection
    with Røros Tweed.

  • A scoop?

My Echoes collection of rugs with Volver studios.
